Dear Diary,
How are you? How was your weekend, mine was good considering Arsenal executed a sweet-sour revenge mission on Liverpool! What else could I ask God for, when Man City confirmed my happiness by bundling Chelsea out of the FA. It was a beautiful week right? Well i can see the smile, you don't need to answer.
Hey diary i have something we need to talk about. It is an observation i made ever since i started working and i think its high time we should bring it to attention. It started back in time during my internship in Kiambu as a news reporter working for KNA (Kenya News Agency), a government news agency that has its headquarters in Jogoo House Nairobi and has offices in all the counties.
While on attachment in Kiambu we had three bosses, County Information Officer CIO), District Information Officer (DIO) and a junior officer. Let me tell you more about my (DIO). Apparently, what normally happens in a news reporting center as an intern, each one of you get to be assigned a supervisor who will take you through training and guiding during the whole internship period. Guess who my supervisor was?! You can't imagine. The DIO. No tribalism but this is just for emphasis. I come from Rift Valley and she is from Central Province. She was over 30 years and i was 22 by then (2012). I stay in Embakasi and she stays in Kiambu, though she has since moved out due to her own good reasons. I was still a school girl and her already working with a good job, a family and with her own office. On my side i was just a simple campus lady on attachment, in search of my first working experience so as to build my future.
Clearly, we were not in the same level even if you could try to compare anything, wealthy-wise, education-wise, tribe-wise, even beauty-wise! Lol. You know ladies and their jealous. Any way that aside. This is where my frustrations at work started. It happened one day when we were covering a by-election for Ikinu Ward, somewhere in Githunguri Kiambu county. That day, I had no where to get a news story from and when my colleague shared the idea with me i couldn't resist. The day was long, as we had to keenly observe the day as the voting process went on. You know we were suppose to cover that and present it as news story. Ill not go into details but instead go straight to the point.
The following day after doing the story and sending it for editing, ordinarily a story with a byline should be given credit to the two reporters and not one. But poor me, the DIO chose to favor the other lady over me and awarded her the whole story! Any reason? She knows better. Maybe since the lady was from her tribe, maybe she was her favorite, maybe the DIO was punishing me, maybe......! I don't know, we will find out one day.
All in all, this did not go for long. I had to complain to the CIO because bearing in mind that I spent my own fare all the way from Embakasi to Githunguri and back home and no credit given I just had to defend my rights on that. And so action was taken. I had a change of supervisor, though my story was gone but at least I had a better supervisor. The CIO became my first ever best female boss that ill always be grateful for my life.
Apart from the DIO frustrating me also some of my colleagues tried to frustrate me. I tell you wonders will never cease. Through my hard work the CIO decided to give me responsibilities to oversee the office while she was away attending her classes. Apparently this didn't go well with the rest of the group and they always thought that the CIO favored me. In the event that the CIO would wish to hold a meeting with all the interns she would send me a message to inform the rest. And the complaints never stopped. One day it happened I found some students misbehaving in the office reception area and I decided to chase away everybody and lock the office. It was around 3 Pm and so I packed my bags and went for my french classes. Guess what happened the following day?! The same DIO summoned me in her office and asked me why I did it. I tried to explain to her but it fell on deaf ears.
Well, dear diary I was not going to complain I just wanted to highlight the frustrations that I have been going through at work. You see after Kiambu, I still feel the same frustrations even after am in my current job. But this one here is more of blackmail through sabotage. Ill give you details some other time.
All said and done, tonight champions league resume and Man city face off with Barcelona, while The Mighty Gunners play Bayern Munich tomorrow on Wednesday. From me, I wish Man city all the best and Tomorrow, COYG! We can do this gunners!Arsenal 2 Munchen 0.
Wish you a fantastic football evening!
Love lisa.
